As a general test, urinalysis is frequently assigned
to the less experienced personnel. Each of these factors enhances
the need for standardized procedures and methods to assure accuracy
and consistency of results. Factors that contribute to variance
include:
- Sample collection.
- Centrifugation.
- Dilution and resuspension of urine sediment.
- Microscopic examination.
Nancy Brunzel recently discussed these and other factors in her
article, “Is Your Routine Urinalysis Test Standardized”,
published in the August 2002 issue of Advance for Administrator’s
of the Laboratory. Ms. Brunzel argues that the only mechanism to
assure accuracy in your urinalysis program requires established
protocols for all phases of urinalysis testing. To support your
efforts, Hycor Biomedical offers the only complete set of control
and disposable products that makes standardization of routine urinalysis
possible.
